Your Guide to Sequoia National Park

During my trip to Sequoia National Park, I visited Yosemite National Park the day before and spent the night in Fresno, California. Therefore, I was coming from Fresno the day that I visited Sequoia which was around an hour and a half drive. I will be sharing my entire California Road Trip Itinerary soon. But this project has taken me a while to write due to other jobs that I have to get done and life simply getting in the way. But I promise it’s coming. For now, please enjoy my Guide to Sequoia National Park:

But no matter where you are coming from – my suggestion is to put in the address for the Foothills Visitor Center, which opens at 8 am. To enter the park, you will have to pay $35 per vehicle and they will give you a map and informational guide. From there, drive down the road roughly 50 minutes and park at the Giant Forest Museum. If interested, the museum is free and it will only take about 10 minutes to go through.

From here, the park offers shuttles to the various trails and sights. It is much smarter to use the shuttles than to drive yourself and risk running out of places to park. We took the shuttle to Sherman Tree, which is the largest sequoia tree (by volume) in the world.

Depending on how much time you have after exploring that area – another option is to drive and park at Wolverton Visitor Center. I suggest finishing the day by driving the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, which takes you to enter Kings Canyon National Park. There are several great places to pull over and explore or take photos along this path.

It is worth noting that this is the only main road in the park and road ends at the Roads End Permit Station. If you do get all the way to the end of it, you will simply turn around and come back through to exit the park.

After our day in Sequoia, we drove to Bakersfield and spent the night at the incredible The Padre Hotel! We chose to do this because it was a closer destination for our plans for the next day, which was to drive through Death Valley and into Vegas.
